Asgiriya Mahanayaka Thero Meets Hindu Religious Leaders at Nallur

Most Ven. Udugama Rathanapala Sri Buddharakkhitha Mahanayaka Thero of Asgiriya Chapter of the Siamese Sector said that we are stronger as long as we remain religiously united and Buddhism and Hinduism are two beliefs born in the same country, India. Ven. Mahanayake Thero expressed these ideas when the Thero met Hindu religious leaders at Nallur in Jaffna on Wednesday (26).

Buddhists and Hindus never fought with each other. If there were any minor incidents, they were merely personal and not religious. Lord Buddha is a great leader descended from a Hindu royal family. Buddhists and Hindus believe same gods. So living united is very important,” Mahanayaka Thero said.

Chief Incumbent of the Asgiriya Chapter and the Buddhist delegation was welcome by Nallai Atheenan Ven. Srilasri Somasundara Thesika Paramacharya Swamigal, President Thelippalai Durgai Amman Temple Mr. Aru Thirumurugan and the crowd with great honour.

Nallai Atheenan who expressed his delight over the visit of Mahanayaka Thero highly appreciated initiative taken by Buddhist monks to stop cattle slaughter in the country and a kind invitation for another visit to Jaffna was extended to the prelate by Nallai Atheenan who told the delegation that with ushering of peace, people of Jaffna live happily and most of them have got their lands and houses back.

Asgiriya Mahanahimi revealed that he had discussed with the President with regard to expediting delayed legal proceedings against Tamil inmates in prisons and releasing them as early as possible. The prelate invited Nallai Atheenan and Hindu priests to come to Kandy where they can visit sacred Temple of the Tooth and meet senior Buddhist monks.

Ven. Sri Buddharakkhitha Thero attended a ceremony to place a statute of Lord Buddha at Bo Maluwa of Jaffna Sri Naga Vihara the same day.

Senior members of Asgiriya Sangha Sabha Ven. Kahawatte Saranangkara Thero, Ven. Wanduragala Dhammarama Thero and Chief Incumbent of Anuradhapura Jayanthipura temple Ven. Nugethanne Pagngnananda Thero comprised the delegation.

Ven. Meegahajandure Gnanarathana Thero of Naga Vihara, Commander Security Force-Jaffna Major General Udaya Perera, Senior DIG Northern Province Mr. Pujitha Jayasunudara and senior officers of tri force and Police were present.
