Opening Ceremony of Poonakary Market Complex and Bus stand held – 27 August 2014

Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa was the chief guest of opening ceremony of Market Complex and Bus Stand constructed in Poonakary of Kilinochchi district on 27th August 2014.

Minister Basil Rohana Rajapaksa in his address requested the Tamil National Alliance to help the Central Government in rebuilding the Northern Province. He also stated that not to disturb the on going development activities. People of the Northern Province have started to enjoy the benefits of the mega development activities of the Government.

Minister of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development Douglas Devananda, Governor of the Northern Province GA Chandrasiri, Parliamentarian M.Chandrakumar and Provincial Minister of Health P.Sathiyalingam participated as special guests.

These buildings were the long term need of the people. Large number of area people participated at this ceremony.

Under the Vadakkin Vasantham Programme Economic Development Ministry spent 20 million rupees for the construction of the Modern Market Complex and 5 million for Poonakary Bus Stand.

Northern Provincial Council Member V.Thavananthan, Govt. Agent of Kilinochchi Roobavathy Ketheeswaran, Chairman of Poonakary Pradeshiya Sabha Sriskantharajah and several officials also took part at this event.

Army & “Derana” Media Distribute Water Tanks to Drought-Affected Villages in Jaffna

Security Force Jaffna further extended its assistance to Jaffna people affected due to long-drawn drought distributing plastic water tanks to various parts of the peninsula. Headquarters 55 Division based at Kaddaikadu made arrangements to hand over 72 such water tanks donated by “Derana” media organization at request of Commander Security Force Jaffna Major General Udaya Perera at a brief function held on Tuesday (26) at Thalaiady Roman Catholic Tamil Mixed (RCTM) school.

Fifty two 1000 litre tanks, ten 500 litre tanks and ten 250 litre tanks were handed over to representatives from different villages suffering from scarcity of water. General Officer Commanding 52 Division Major General Priyantha Jayasundara, Chief Executive Officer “Derana” Mr. Madawa Madawala, General Officer Commanding 55 Division Brigadier S.K. Thirunaukarisu and Commander 553 Brigade Colonel Vijith Subhasinghe were present at the function.

Opening Ceremony of Entertainment Park In Kinniya

Under the Puraneguma Development Project of Mahinda Chinthana and with the initiative of Chairman of Urban Council Kinniya Mr. Hilmy Mahroof, Newly Constructed Entertainment Park along the Kattaiyaru Lagoon was declared open by Hon. Governor, Eastern Province Rear Admiral Mohan Wijewickrama on 09th August 2014.

Hon Rizad Badurdeen, the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Chairman and Members of Urban Council, Kinniya, Provincial Secretaries, Government Officials and large gathering of people were also present at this occasion.During the speech of Hon. Governor reminded the situation that prevailed and the number of development programme carried out to the people in Kinniya by the Government, Provincial Council and the Local Government Institutions. He stressed that it is important for the people to ensure that the stability and peace is maintained as had been during the last few years to ensure smooth transformation of the people and infrastructure as found in other developed areas in Sri Lanka especially, after the absence of development for almost 30 years.

Atchuveli Industrial Zone Construction work expedited – 11 August 2014

“Atchuveli Industrial Zone will turn out to be a national asset, where the productions from this zone not only benefit the local residents, but also to the country’s economy. More and more investments and ventures flow into the zone means more income.This has created many job opportunities as well. The Indian government has granted US$ 220 million worth of assistance.The industrial zone will be boost to the province and is on way forward to create more opportunities to potential investors and business sector as well. Once the construction work is complete, this zone will contribute immensely to economic growth of the province.”

Minister of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development Douglas Devananda and Governor of the Northern Province GA Chandrasiri paid an inspection visit to Atchuveli Industrial Zone on 11th August 2014.

They had discussion with the relevant officials to expedite the construction works. The construction works are in progress and the industrial zone will be declared open coming 21st August.

The discussion focused on the work plans of entrepreneurs and job opportunities available in the zone.

Army Provides Water to Jaffna Drought-Hit Areas

2014_08_12_5As many parts of the country, the prevailing drought has badly affected the Jaffna life. Jaffna did not get the average rainfall nearly for two years and this situation has dragged them to difficulty of finding water for drinking and domestic use.

To assist the people of Jaffna suffering due to lack of water, troops serving in different areas have started providing drinking water to civilians at battalion level. Plastic water tanks are put up at public places in addition to bowsers travelling round the villages.

At present, water is supplied to most affected areas in the 55 and 52 Divisions. However, on directives of the Commander Security Force Jaffna, the project will be extended to other required areas under supervision of respective Generals Officer Commanding and Brigade Commanders soon.

Hindus celebrate the annual Nallur Festival in a grand scale. Nallur Temple, which is one of the oldest temple in the country. The temple is also popular among the world countries. The Tamils mostly Hindus enjoy a much better freedom in the province and country celebrate this festival in spiritual manner.

Hindus thank the present government for providing a peaceful atmosphere to practice their religious rites. Hindu and Buddhism have many things in common. Even the Buddhist from the south will travel to north to worship “Lord Muruga” or “KatharagamaTheviya” in their terms. Thus this festival will be a symbol of religious harmony , peace & reconciliation. Today ( 01-08-2014 ) is the first day of the festival. Like last time, this time also we can expect more than 1 million Hindu devotees not only from the country but also from abroad.The Nallur festival will definitely be an eye opener to the tourism industry in north as well. I wish the organizers of this festival“ All the very best “ for the success of this event.

Let’s join the Maviddapuam Temple Renovation – Governor’s Trust Fund donates 1 million rupees for the renovation work

“Maviddapuram is a holy village in the Sri Lankan district of Jaffnaunder the Tellipalai divisional secretariat. It is near the Palaly airport,Kankesanthurai harbour and Keerimalai coast which is famous for the Naguleswaram Shiva temple. So, it is a centre point and well connected to the Jaffna town by transport services before the late 1980s.”

Maviddapuram kovil is one of the popular Hindu temple in Northern Province next to Nallur Kandaswamy kovil. This temple reflects the faith of Hindu devotees of this province. It is not only Tamils, the temple is popular among the Sinhalese as well.

Restoration and renovation works of Maviddapuram Kanthaswamy temple are being carried out in a rapid phase. The temple administration has proposed several requests during the discussion with Governor of the Northern Province GA Chandrasiri. Deeply moved, Governor deposited one million rupees from Governor’s Trust Fund for the restoration works of Rajagopuam and compound wall of the temple to the Bank of Ceylon A/C number 76216427 – “Restoration committee, Maviddapuram Shi Kanthasuwamy Templ-Rajagopuram Project”.

The estimation for renovation work is 300 million rupees. The temple administration has decided to raise the fund expected from organizations, philanthropists, well-wishers and public. Those who wish to contribute at this noble tasks are wanted to deposit to the above mentioned account number.

It was decided to expedite the execution of the renovation works by providing proper inputs with the duly formed volunteers who are interested in. At first stage, staff of Governor’s Secretariat made a shrmadhana programme on 31st July 2014.

We seek the support of scouts, youth clubs, and well-wishers. Let’s join in the holy tasks.

It was proposed to construct a ‘nanthavanam’ (flower garden) around ‘Saravanapoikai’ (pond) to get flowers for the pooja. The restoration committee has decided to seek the support of Ministry and Department of Agriculture for this task. Any individual can also donate plants for this purpose.

New Classroom Complex of Konavil GTMS declared open – 28 July 2014

“Education sector has been the main interested sector in northern province. People of the province shows more importance to the studies of their children. Accordingly, the government of Sri Lanka focused on providing the infrastructure facilities in northern schools. This school is one such school which has lacked classroom facilities for a long time. Longtime dream has come true in this occasion.”

Two newly built classroom complexes of Kilinochchi Konavil Government Tamil Mixed School were declared open on 28th July 2014. . Ambassador of the Republic of Korea for Sri Lanka Chang Won-sang and Minister of Education Bandula Gunawardana participated as chief guests and declared open the building. Minister of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development Douglas Devananda, Governor of the Northern Province GA Chandrasiri and Parliamentarian M.Chandrakumar also graced the occasion as special guests.

A two storied building which comprises a science and a computer laboratories and a single storied building which comprises 4 classrooms and a library were declared open. 52 million were spent for the construction of these buildings with the financial donation of Korean Republic.

Principal of the School K.Ithayasivathas chaired the program. Provincial Secretary of Education Ministry S.Sathiyaseelan, Kilinochchi Zonal Director K.Murugavel and large number of students also took part at this event.

Army Marks World Nature Conservation Day planting trees & Cleaning Environment

To mark the World Nature Conservation Day, soldiers of the Security Force Jaffna conducted many echo-friendly projects encompassing the whole peninsula on Monday (28). Removing plastics and polythene wastes on the beach and land by the soldiers serving in respective areas took place with the help of civilians and different organizations.

Meanwhile, the 523 Brigade of Kachchai organized a campaign to plant herbal plants in the premises of Kaithady Ayurvedic Teaching hospital on Monday.At the same time, a number of tree planting programmes were conducted by the soldiers throughout the island.

Director of the Ayurvedic hospital Dr. Mrs. Prema Sivasanmugaraja, Dean Faculty of Indigenous Medicine Dr. S. Sivasanmugaraja and Commander 523 Brigade Brigadier Athula Marasinghe also attended the herbal tree planting campaign.
