This will also improve the basic facilities of the premises. Further it will attract more visitors to the premises. Jaffna Old Park has become a common leisure time entertaining place for many including children and adults.It is ideal that the canteen was opened on a special day – Thai Pongal day.”
A canteen was opened in Jaffna Old Park for public use. A ceremony in this regards was held on 15thJanuary 2014.
This canteen was constructed under the guidance of the Governor of the Northern Province GA Chandrasiri for the use of children and public who visit Children Park and Adventure Park.
Secretary to the Governor L.Ilaangovan, Asst. Secretary to the Governor JX Selvanayagam, Asst. Secretary of Jaffna Regional Commissioner Office S.Annadurai and Commissioner of Jaffna Municipal Council S.Pranavanthan participated at this event.

Aiming at minimizing the spread of Dengue alarmingly rising in Jaffna soon after the rain ceased, 511 Brigade at Atchuvely organized an awareness programme in Kopay to educate civilians on precautionary measures.
With the support of regional health authorities, soldiers together with public health officials educated people to keep the environment clean to remove mosquito breeding place.
Two doctors, twenty Public Health Inspectors and Public Health Midwives, five Police officers joined hundred soldiers in this programme.
Over 450 civilians residing in 55 Division area underwent medical checkup and received medicine at two medical clinics organized by the 55 Division with coordination of 4th Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps (4 SLAMC) on 12th and 13th December at Uduththurai and Kaddaikadu. Dr. Jayan Stephan, Dr. J. Gunaseelan and Dr. Giritharan and a medical team of “Navajeevana Health Centre”, Colombo extended their assistance to doctors and medical staff of 4 SLAMC to conduct the clinics.
The programme was organized for the civilians who do not have easy access to medical facilities since there is no hospital or medical centre in the vicinity. Out of 462 civilians, 29 attended the dental clinic. Those who were in need of treatment were given medicine while a few others were referred to hospital.
